The Assembly at the Shadyside school
Steel City Storytellers traveled to Shady Side Academy to perform for their 250+ students and faculty at their morning assembly.
Storyteller Job Bedford performed 4 personal stories: Pittsburgh Left, Evil Robot, Where Dreams Come True, and Killer CRAT. In between tales, he taught the audience about the art of storytelling and techniques to use in everyday life. As an added bonus, to showcase how anyone can tell a story, Mr. Bedford prepped and worked with two of the 8th grade students, who would introduce him to the assembly, to tell personal stories of their own. The assembly had a blast! All the stories were well loved, laughter filled the room, and suspense had people on the edge of their seats. Leaving the building, students high-fived and exclaimed their excitement at the storyteller as Job left the halls. Job started the assembly with how the power of stories can transform a stranger into an acquaintance in a few short moments, and by the goodbyes they were already looking forward to his next visit.
Even weeks after the performance they were still talking about it. Some students said it was “The best assembly they’ve ever had.” Shady Side Academy will be looking into having Steel City Storytellers perform again and possibly teach workshops as well. To educate and empower others to share their own stories and make true connections is what it’s all about. Thank you Shady Side Academy for having us at your assembly.

On August 26, 2022 Stephen Cooper, Angelo, Sarah Rose and Job Bedford shared stories at the Whitehall Library to a crowd of over 75 people.
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
On August 24, 2022, Storytellers Angelo, Peggy McGarry, and Job Bedford conducted a two-day workshop for student guides who provide tours for prospective students and their parents.
West Penn Burn Camp Steel City Storytellers – June 4,2022
On Saturday, June 4, 2022 Steel City Storytellers conducted a workshop followed by a performance around the campfire at West Penn Burn Camp. The audience was about 20 youth ages 7 to 17 who are burn survivors, plus counselors including some psychology students from West Virginia University.
Job Bedford, Mylene Chan and Angelo Creo joined the group for dinner before presenting the interactive workshop How to Tell a Story. The students were highly engaged with many of them taking center stage to tell a tale.
Following the Workshop, Steven Cooper and his son Skyler joined us for a performance around the campfire, Smores included. A good time was had by all!
